I’ve spent over two decades trying to save us
Even though us is now a tangled web at best
I was strong enough to get over
But to get through
You need me as much as I need you
Going alone is not an option
The better part of twenty
Has taught me plenty
Confiding in each other is not enough
We must prove [...]

Winter Blah’s, Blech’s and Booo’s
Posted in Random Meanderings on January 29, 2009 | 3 Comments »
I am so unbelievably fed up with this winter already.
Yesterday, Mother Nature dumped another near 30 cm of snow on us…that’s after 3 straight days of Jack Frost nipping at our noses and other bits with -30 C windchills.
Oh, and those city buses, they still aren’t running.
My Son (20) now walks over an hour to [...]
2nd Annual “Let’s Pretend It’s Not Winter” Meme

I know it’s earlier than last year but with the snow and the -30 C temperatures, I could really use it about now.
I’m too lazy to hunt around for last year’s meme and besides, I don’t want to do the exact same one anyway. If you want to play, please feel free to copy and [...]
Cheesecake

That, my friends, is a pic of my first ever cheesecake! Nice eh?
It was so easy and so good that I can’t believe that I’ve never made one before. Here’s the recipe.
Preheat oven to 350 F.
Ingredients:
For the crust:
1 1/2 cups of graham crumbs
1/4 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of butter (melted)
Mix ingredients together thoroughly and press [...]
Blogger’s Block or Not

You wouldn’t believe how many posts I’ve started, put to draft, edited and then deleted in the last couple of weeks. In fact, it’s rather getting on my nerves that I can’t seem to follow a whole train of thought without getting distracted, or worse, bored to tears.
Oh lordy, when you start boring yourself…well, it [...]
The Sigh Felt Around the World

Did anyone else feel it? Just as Obama took the oath, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted.
And that speech…WOW, just WOW. I was in tears by the end of it.
Change has come and I’m glad I took the time out of my day to help welcome it.
Congratulations to the United States.
Nothing Special?

It may be a bit early to get my hopes up as far as a new family tradition goes, but they’re up anyway.
Tomorrow will be the second Sunday IN A ROW, that Son (20) has come over for dinner. He only moved out, officially, in October and though we’ve been in contact and we saw [...]
Comes Out as Poetry

Whenever I try to match emotion to words
It turns into Knights battling with Swords
One word leads to another
And in defense I make the next its brother
So many times I’ve tried to tell the first hand tale
In proper speech, so far to no avail
Lest you count the numerous doctors
Who profited, whom were regaled
By my innocent confessions
Back [...]
To My Little Sister

Only 18 months difference
For the first 10 or so years
We lived in each other’s shadow
So used to being seen as one
We were known simply as “the girls”
At best unflattering, at worst disabling
So hard for each of us
To afterward find our own way
If only it were left at that simple
But we both know abject terror
We’ve endured, [...]
Progress Through the Past

Above and beyond the benefits of our choice to homeschool/unschool that I’ve seen for Daughter over the last two years (of which I’ve written plenty about), I’m still often surprised by how much I’m learning about myself.
For instance, before homeschooling, I didn’t know I was such a history buff.
At first my interest in the middle [...]
