I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions, I have enough trouble keeping the daily promises I make to better myself without making huge yearly ones.
What am I big on though, is the opportunity to celebrate and give meaning to the idea of a fresh start. A brand new year is like a blank canvas of [...]

The Library – Day Two
Posted in Neat Ideas, Random Meanderings, This Old House on December 30, 2008 | 2 Comments »
Okay, so it looks more like a rec room than a library but that’s just fine by us.
There’s now a study/games/craft area (an old dining room table ) with an internet connection for my laptop.
The matching hutch will now store all our crafty type books and supplies, as soon as I finish gathering them up.
And [...]
The Library – Day One

Not one to shirk the enthusiasm of a new idea, I’ve already (after the drafting enlistment of Hubby’s back and arms) de-cluttered the space, moved furniture both out and in and have built the bare bones of a makeshift home library.
Of course, my ideal is this…
But, I live in the real world and what I’ve [...]
A Library It Is

I had little trouble convincing Hubby that we should turn Son’s old space into a library/media/craft room. It’s a huge space that’s just being wasted at the moment and it makes sense to move all the random books, movies and craft supplies into one place.
The easiest part of this task will be the decluttering and [...]
Boxing Day Mayhem
Posted in Random Meanderings on December 27, 2008 | 2 Comments »
In keeping with our efforts to downsize and simplify our lives, we’ve recently adopted a family Boxing Day tradition of getting out with the old to make room for the new.
Basically it means that we use the effect of getting new things to cause us to get rid of stuff we aren’t using and don’t [...]
Spoke Too Soon

Me and my big mouth!
That’s what I get for bragging that I was ahead of the game, that all my jobs were nearly done and that I had the time to sit around reading comic books. And though I don’t regret spending that time with my favourite cartoon six year old and his stuffed tiger, [...]
Coffee with the Only Ex that Matters

Never would have considered the thought
But you, our Son, asked and obviously needing
So this is what comes of heeding
We sat down…you, me and him
And before long we were reminiscing
In a way I would have not thought possible
Truth telling, memories spelling
About your earliest beginnings
You didn’t say much, you merely sat in awe
Who would have thought we [...]
All I DON’T Want for Christmas

Is a visit to the dentist!
Last night, while doing some pre-holiday snacking on pistachios and a Toblerone, I realized that I lost a 1/4 of one my teeth.
I thought I had a piece of nougat stuck on my tooth and in trying to remove it realized that it was in fact a very old filling [...]
A Christmastime Poem

Only one week to go
Until the big day
When Santa arrives
With his goody packed sleigh
All my projects are done
All my cookies are baked
It seems my excitement
No longer needs to be faked
The lights on the tree
They flicker and glow
Outside, the landscape
Is covered in soft fluffy snow
The malls have been braved
My bank account now deplete
And most of my [...]
A little less socialization please…
Posted in Homeschool on December 16, 2008 | 1 Comment »
Now, we’ve all heard the myth that homeschooled children lack socialization.
And after two years of homeschooling I will in fact heartily agree that my child “lacks” the usual standardized, institutionalized and one-grade-fits-all socialization.
Not that she didn’t have plenty of exposure to it. Nearly eight years in public school assured that she got a good dose [...]
