Making A Difference

From the Ottawa Citizen on Earth Hour:
(Note: The original article is quite lengthy and I’m commenting to merely the first half of it.)
“Mr. Silk is the general manager of Envirocentre, a non-profit agency that works out of city hall to increase energy efficiency throughout Ottawa. Although the city’s officially on board, Mr. Silk won’t be [...]

When she’s spent, out of the last 24 hours, 3 hours playing indoors and 5 hours playing outside, in the snowfort, with her best friends, 3 1/2 hours outside at a Maple Farm (sugar bush) with Dad plus another 2 1/2 hours with same best friends outside in the same snowfort and…
…still bursts into [...]

NEXT DAY: Well we had a great time and despite being exhausted after 8 solid hours with 3 pubescent girls (and their dog) I can’t say that I remember ever having that much fun without being camping.
The girls spent most of the late afternoon and early evening playing outside in what’s left of Hubby’s [...]

I just finished reading John Holt’s “Instead of Education”.
In it, Holt describes the problems with the modern education system as being more a matter of purpose instead of procedure.
He writes:
“I must insist on it once more: the trouble with S-chools (his spelling for compulsory or forced attendance based institutions) is not a matter of [...]

Sigh…I mean, YAY!

Well, the warmer temperatures have wreaked havoc on Hubby’s igloo.

The loss of innocence
The loss of ignorance
No longer able to say, “I didn’t KNOW any better.”
How sure was He [...]

Granted, I take a lot of pictures. I love taking pictures, not really from an artistic perspective but more from a historical one.
There aren’t a lot of pictures of me and my siblings growing up. As a blended family (Mom had 3, her new Hubby had 4), the living arrangements were ambiguous at [...]

So now that he has successfully built a path to the BBQ…

(Yes, Hubby is BBQing in his housecoat)
What did he do with all that snow?

Why, started building an igloo of course!

Happy Easter

Driving home from the In-Laws after Easter dinner…
Daughter: So, why do we have Easter dinner?
Me: To celebrate Jesus, who died on Good Friday and rose again on Easter Sunday.
Daughter: When did He die?
Me: 2, 008 years ago.
Daughter: Are you serious? Is that true?
Me: Well, I wasn’t there but I believe it’s true. A [...]

I walked by the back door and noticed this…

I looked a little further out and saw this…

Of course, I HAD to ask…”What are you doing?”

“What, me?”
“No, I’m talking to the hibernating squirrels…yes, you.”
“Building a path to the BBQ.”
You see that black thing just barely sticking out of the snow behind and to the left of [...]
